CBS to run the obligatory introductory course for all Industrial PhD-students from 2018

1. December 2017

In an open tender from Innovationsfonden (Innovation Fund Denmark) Copenhagen Business School, in collaboration with CBS Executive, has won the task of running the 5 ECTS “Industrial PhD Course” for all Industrial PhDs receiving the funding for industrial PhD. Currently 130 Industrial PhD grants are given annually by Innovationsfonden and the 12 months course is to be organised twice a year for cohorts of around 60-70 PhDs. The students are coming from all kind of academic fields and the courses are to be taught in English

The course has been running for a number of years, at the latest offered by DTU. The aim of the course is to prepare the PhD-students to understand, embrace and internalize the responsibility to create a business impact through PhD research, navigate between business and academia and to ensure value creation.  In its revised form, the course will focus on business and organisational understanding, project management, innovation & entrepreneurship and communication, taught in blended learning formats and with emphasis on building and sustaining research-related networks.

Taking the responsibility to run the “Industrial PhD Course” is yet another step towards implementation of CBS’ strategy on Business in Society as we will host, develop and get the possibility to interact with extraordinary talents from Denmark and abroad, as well as work in close cooperation with their companies, their supervisors and faculty from other Danish universities.

According to Innovationsfonden we won the tender because of our focus on innovative pedagogical methods, networking activities, a well thought curriculum to be delivered by faculty from a number of universities and our experience in dealing with PhD-students and executives from many different academic fields and businesses

The course will formally take-off in Spring 2018, but preparations are already on the way. CBS is committed to offer a state-of-the-art programme, deeply rooted in the research-based teaching tradition, progressive learning methodologies and principles of responsible education.

The contract on the “Industrial PhD Course! sums up to approx. DKK 2 mio. annually.
