The overlooked benefits of women-only leadership programmes
McKinsey Quarterly (Dec. 2019) recently published an article on the overlooked benefits of women-only programmes. The two authors argue that these kinds of programmes often are misinterpreted as a “self-help” to the individual leaving unexamined the most powerful value of those programmes to the organisation.
Based on 150 interviews, the article argues that organisations that send participants to a women’s leadership development programme benefit from the development of reflective leaders and change agents of today’s and tomorrow’s leadership culture.
The article concludes that women-only programmes foster the leadership mindset of tomorrow. The programmes put focus on leadership skills that will lead to truly inclusive workplaces taking full advantage of the significant benefits of diverse teams operating at their best.
